Councilmember David Jones is serving his second term representing Ward One on the Statesville City Council. Throughout his time in office, Jones has been a steady advocate for responsible government, long-term planning, and high-quality city services. He is particularly proud of the completion and full implementation of the City’s Strategic Plan, which now guides both planning and budgeting decisions across departments. His tenure has also included the adoption of the City’s Code of Ethics, the establishment of a fund balance policy, and the development of the 2045 Land Development Plan.
Jones has supported numerous capital projects that strengthen essential services and prepare Statesville for future growth. These include Fire Station 1, expansion of the Municipal Warehouse, improvements to the Statesville Regional Airport including the terminal and runway expansion, the expansion of Police Headquarters, construction of the downtown parking deck and associated apartment development, and the acquisition of property for the future Fire Station 5.
Over the years, Jones has learned the importance of consensus-building and open communication among Councilmembers. He believes that understanding differing viewpoints before formal deliberations leads to better decisions and ensures actions taken by the Council serve the best interests of all Statesville residents.
Jones’ priorities for Ward One and the city as a whole focus on supporting the nearly 500 City employees who deliver exceptional service every day. He believes the city must continue offering competitive pay and benefits to maintain high service levels. In the coming months, he recognizes the importance of thoughtfully reviewing the Unified Development Code to ensure it supports balanced growth without creating unnecessary burdens.
Throughout his time on Council, Jones has seen Statesville positioned for strong, steady growth across housing, industry, and retail. He is committed to promoting smart, balanced development that maintains public safety as the top priority and supports quality of life for residents. He also remains focused on helping Statesville grow as a business-friendly community, encouraging economic development and job creation to raise household incomes and support families across the city.
Born and raised in Statesville, Jones is motivated by a desire to give back to the community where he built his career, raised his family, and operates his business. Some of his most meaningful moments on Council include recognizing outstanding achievements by young residents and celebrating the exceptional work of City employees.
Outside of Council service, Jones owns and operates a real estate company and is a fourth-generation owner of a family farm that has transitioned its former crop fields to timber production, with the barns repurposed to host weddings and special events for the public. He enjoys spending time outdoors and especially loves fishing with his family.
