A Celebration of Heritage: Garfield Green Street Historic District
Join the Statesville African American Heritage Preservation Commission and the City of Statesville on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 12 to 3 p.m. as the community comes together to celebrate the Garfield Green Street National Historic District and its recent listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
The celebration will take place along Garfield Street and at Garfield Park and will honor the neighborhood’s rich history, cultural significance, and lasting impact on the Statesville community.
Highlights of the event include:

🎶 Live music from a DJ at Garfield Park
🍴 Food trucks and local vendors
🪦 Headstone preservation presentation
🤝 Community fellowship and celebration
“This district tells an important story about the people, families, churches, businesses, and traditions that helped shape Statesville,” said Councilwoman Lisa Pearson. “This celebration is an opportunity to honor that history, preserve it for future generations, and bring the community together to recognize the significance of the Garfield Green Street neighborhood.”
Please note there will be road closures and designated parking areas for the event.
