Building Plaque Unveiling Held for New Statesville Regional Airport Terminal

Last week, the Statesville Regional Airport hosted a special Building Plaque Unveiling luncheon to recognize the City Council members who played a key role in advancing the construction of the Airport’s new Terminal Building. The event was held prior to the recent council transition and served as a moment to honor the dedication and leadership of outgoing officials Jap Johnson, Steve Johnson, Joe Hudson, Kim Wasson, and Mayor Costi Kutteh, along with current council members David Jones, Doris Allison, Amy Lawton, and Lisa Pearson.

The plaque unveiling officially marked the progress of one of the City’s most significant aviation investments and recognized the commitment of elected leaders who helped move the project forward. City staff, council members, and project partners gathered to celebrate the milestone and reflect on the impact the new terminal will have on the future of air travel and economic development in Statesville.

The City of Statesville is constructing a new three-level airport terminal designed to enhance the experience for pilots, travelers, and businesses. The $15 million project includes expanded terminal space, additional offices for future growth, and a third-floor restaurant space that will provide a new amenity while creating future revenue opportunities. An official ribbon cutting for the new Terminal Building will be held in late January or early February 2026 once construction is complete, giving the community an opportunity to celebrate this major investment in Statesville’s future.

The Statesville Regional Airport plays a crucial role in the local economy by supporting corporate travel, business aviation, and regional air transportation. The Building Plaque Unveiling served not only as a recognition of public service, but also as a celebration of progress – highlighting how strategic investment today helps shape the future of Statesville.
