Arbor Day

April 12, 2025

WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed the idea of Arbor Day, a day dedicated to the planting and care of trees; and

WHEREAS, trees enhance our environment, improving air quality, providing wildlife habitat, and reducing energy consumption by moderating temperatures; and

WHEREAS, trees play a critical role in combating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Statesville recognize the importance of trees in contributing to the overall beauty and well-being of our community; and

WHEREAS, the City of Statesville is committed to preserving, planting, and maintaining trees for current and future generations; and

WHEREAS, Arbor Day is celebrated nationwide as a time to honor the value of trees and encourage their planting and care; 

NOW, THEREORE, I, Constantine H. Kutteh, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim April 12, 2025 as Arbor Day in Statesville, I encourage all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day by joining us for the Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 12th that will feature tree planting activities, educational sessions on tree care, and family-friendly fun.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have set my Hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Statesville to be affixed this 7th day of April 2025
