Ice Storm Warning in Effect - Prepare Now If You Have Not Already

Last Updated 1/23/2026Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Storm Watch to an Ice Storm Warning from 1 p.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Monday for our region.

While today remains calm, hazardous winter weather is expected this weekend, including significant ice accumulation, dangerous road conditions, and the possibility of extended power outages followed by very cold temperatures and low wind chills early next week.

If you have not already prepared, please do so now. Taking steps today can help keep you and your family safe through the storm.

For helpful tips on how to prepare - including what to have on hand and how to stay safe - please review our preparedness guide published earlier this week here.

Key Actions to Take

Before the storm:

  • Gather emergency supplies (flashlights, batteries, food, water, medications)
  • Charge phones and devices
  • Ensure pets are safe and warm
  • Make a family plan for power outages

During hazardous conditions:

  • Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary
  • Stay indoors and keep warm
  • Use portable generators outdoors, away from windows

After the storm:

  • Watch for icy patches on roads and walkways
  • Report downed power lines or hazards to City services
  • Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors

City crews are preparing equipment and materials and will monitor conditions throughout the storm. We will share updates on services, road conditions, shelters, and outages as needed.

Stay safe, Statesville.
