Child Abuse Prevention Month - April 2024

WHEREAS, in Federal fiscal year 2023, 3.9 million reports were made to child protective services; and

WHEREAS, children are our state's most vulnerable members as well as our state's most valuable resources, helping to shape the future of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention activities succeed because of partnerships created between child welfare professionals, education, health community - and faith-based organizations, businesses, law enforcement agencies, and families; and

WHEREAS, communities must make every effort to promote programs and activities that create strong and thriving children and families; and

WHEREAS, we recognize the need to prioritize kids and invest in prevention initiatives like home visiting and family-strengthening policies, economic support, and community-based child abuse prevention programs at the national, state, and local levels; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Constantine H. Kutteh, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim April 2024 as NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH in Statesville in partnership with Iredell County Department of Social Services, Iredell County Guardian Ad-litems Office, Pharos Parenting, Children's Hope Alliance, Dove House Children's Advocacy Center, and Iredell County Partnership for Young Children. We urge all citizens to recognize this month by dedicating ourselves to the task of improving the quality of life for all children and families.
