Phases 1 and 2 of the Arey Road Waterline Extension project, extending from Hidden Lakes to Old Airport Road, have been approved for construction by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources under Permit Serial No. 26-00021.
Phase 1 is programmed for construction by the city in Fiscal Year 2027 and includes approximately 2,850 feet of 16-inch waterline extending from Old Airport Road south along Buffalo Shoals Road and east along Arey Road to the new Beaver Creek subdivision.
Phase 2 consists of approximately 4,460 feet of 16-inch waterline from Beaver Creek to Hidden Lakes and was completed and placed into service on April 21, 2026.
A third related project, being constructed as part of the Airport Expansion project, will connect the waterline from Old Airport Road to Bostian Road along Buffalo Shoals Road.
Once all three projects are complete, the system will create a service loop from Bostian Road to Wallace Springs Road to support future development and water demands in the southwest quadrant of the city.
Phases 1 and 2 of the project (Hidden Lakes to Old Mountain Road) have been approved for construction by the NC Department of Environmental Quality.
Phase 1 is programmed for construction in FY 2027 and includes approximately 2,850 feet of 16-inch waterline from Old Airport Road south along Buffalo Shoals Road and east along Arey Road to the new Beaver Creek subdivision.
Phase 2 includes approximately 4,460 feet of 16-inch waterline from Beaver Creek to Hidden Lakes along Arey Road.
A third segment, funded as part of the Statesville Regional Airport expansion project, will connect Old Airport Road to Bostian Road along Buffalo Shoals Road.
When all three segments are complete, they will create a continuous waterline loop from Bostian Road to Wallace Springs Road, strengthening system reliability and supporting future development in the southwest area of the city.
Phases 1 and 2 of this construction project, spanning from Hidden Lakes to Old Mountain Road, have been submitted to the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), Division of Water Resources (DWR) for final permitting.
Phase 2 will be constructed first by developers and will extend water service from Wallace Springs Road to the new Beaver Creek subdivision. A second segment of Phase 2, from Beaver Creek to Old Airport Road, will be constructed by the City of Statesville. This segment will connect to a new water line from Bostian Bridge Drive to Old Airport Road, which is being funded as part of an Airport Expansion project.
Once all three segments are connected, the project will create a 16-inch waterline loop, significantly strengthening system reliability and providing capacity to meet the growing and emergent water needs in the Arey Road area.
Progress continues on the Arey Road Waterline Extension project. The Beaver Creek developer is currently working with the project design engineer on plans for the Back Creek crossing for the new waterline.
This segment, extending from the Hidden Lakes area, represents the third leg of the overall project that will connect Wallace Springs Road and Buffalo Shoals Road. Once complete, the looped system will improve water service reliability, with modeling confirming it will meet both pressure and volume needs for future development in the Arey Road area.
The proposed creek crossing will use a bore-and-jack installation method, which avoids the need for regulatory permitting. This approach is expected to save time and keep the project moving forward by eliminating regulatory review delays.
The Arey Road Waterline Extension Project is nearing final design and continues to move forward in several coordinated phases that will improve water service in the area.
This large-scale project includes three segments designed to work together to enhance domestic water service and support future growth in western Statesville:
Once all three phases are complete, the project will create a new waterline loop connecting Bostian Bridge Drive to Wallace Springs Road. This loop will strengthen the city’s water system, providing improved water pressure, reliability, and fire protection for nearby neighborhoods and future developments.
