Parks and Recreation Month

July 2026

WHEREAS, parks and recreation are essential to the quality of life in the City of Statesville, providing welcoming spaces where residents of all ages can gather, play, learn, and enjoy the outdoors; and

WHEREAS, parks, greenways, trails, athletic facilities, and recreation programs promote healthy lifestyles by encouraging physical activity, supporting mental well-being, and creating opportunities for people to connect with nature; and

WHEREAS, the City of Statesville Recreation and Economic Vitality Department offers a wide range of programs, events, and services that enrich the lives of children, adults, seniors, and families; and

WHEREAS, parks and recreation contribute to a strong local economy by enhancing property values, attracting visitors and businesses, supporting community events, and improving the overall attractiveness and vitality of our city; and

WHEREAS, parks and natural areas play a vital role in protecting our environment, preserving our natural resources, improving air and water quality, and strengthening our community's resilience for future generations; and 

WHEREAS, the staff, volunteers, and community partners who support parks and recreation work year-round to provide safe and inclusive recreational opportunities that benefit all residents; and

WHEREAS,  July is recognized nationwide as Parks and Recreation Month, celebrating the lasting impact that parks and recreation have on the happiness, and well-being of communities. 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, J. Douglas Hendrix, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim the month of July 2026 as PARKS AND RECREATIN MONTH in the City of Statesville and encourage all residents. to visit our parks, participate in recreation programs, and enjoy the City's natural resources. 

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have set my Hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Statesville to be affixed this 13th day of July 2026.

The North Carolina Drought Monitor map, updated June 18, 2026, shows worsening drought conditions across much of the state. Large portions of central and northern North Carolina are shaded red and dark red, indicating extreme (D3) and exceptional (D4) drought conditions.
