Public Notice: City of Statesville Adopts Charter Amendment: Municipal Elections Moved to November of Odd Years with Changes to At-Large Member Terms

PUBLIC NOTICE STATING THAT AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF STATESVILLE HAS BEEN ADOPTED CHANGING THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO NOVEMBER OF ODD YEARS AND CHANGING THE STAGGERED TERMS OF ONE AT-LARGE MEMBER

The public will take notice that the City Council of the City of Statesville adopted an ordinance on August 19, 2024 amending the City Charter, as set forth in Chapter 667 of the 1959 Session Laws of North Carolina, as amended, to change the Election Date to the first Tuesday in November of odd years and to implement four-year staggered terms of the Statesville City Council. In November of 2025, the one of the at-large candidates who receive the highest number of votes shall be elected for four- year terms, while the other at-large candidate who receives the next highest number of votes shall be elected for two-year terms. At the regular municipal election to be held in November of 2025, and every four years thereafter, one at-large member of the City Council shall be elected to serve for four-year terms. At the regular municipal election to be held in 2027, and every four years thereafter, one at-large member of the City Council shall be elected to four-year terms.
