Public Notice: Approved Charter Amendment on Election Method and Council Terms

PUBLIC NOTICE STATING THAT AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF STATESVILLE HAS BEEN ENACTED CHANGING THE METHOD OF ELECTING THE MAYOR AND THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY OF STATESVILLE CITY COUNCIL TO NONPARTISAN PLURALITY AND RATIFICATION OF THE PRIOR ACTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL IN ORDINANCE 31-24

The public will take notice that the City Council of the City of Statesville enacted an ordinance on June 2, 2025, amending the City of Statesvile Charter, as set forth in Chapter 667 of the 1959 Session Laws of North Carolina, as amended, to change the method of electing the mayor and members of the City of Statesville City Council to nonpartisan plurality and ratification of Ordinance 31-247 to provide that the at-large seats of the Statesville City Council shall be elected for four year terms on a staggered basiss, starting with the election of the two members in November of 2025 in the manner as set forth in Section 2 of Ordinance 31-24.
