How to Set Up Your Utility Account

In Person: M-F, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at 301 S. Center Street, Statesville

What is Required to set up an Residential Account (All items on the check list must be completed before the utility can be connected.)

  1. Valid picture I.D. (a copy can be emailed to [email protected])
  2. Proof of ownership of the property (copy of "offer to purchase" or "closing documents") or a lease agreement
  3. Connection fee of $16.05 (this is a one-time fee)
  4. Deposit - Must be paid in person with check, cash or credit card

What is Required to set up a Commercial Account (All items on the check list must be completed before the utility can be connected.

  1. Valid picture I.D. (a copy can be emailed to [email protected]
  2. Proof of ownership of the property (copy of "offer to purchase" or "closing documents") or a lease agreement
  3. Connection fee of $16.05 (this is a one-time fee)
  4. Deposit - Must be paid in person with check, cash or credit card
  5. Zoning Clearance - Call the Planning Department at 704-878-3574 for more info.
  6. Fire Marshall Inspection - Call 704-878-3401 for more info.
  7. Backflow - Call 704-832-3847 for more info.

How a Deposit is Determined

Deposits are for one month's average of the previous 12 months usage for that address. The minimum deposit for residential accounts is $200 for electric and $100 for just water and sewer; and for commercial accounts is $300. If payments are made on time (bill due date) for 12 consecutive months, the deposit will be credited to your account.

Residential customers may have this deposit waived with one of the following:

  1. A letter of credit from a current utility company
  2. Co-signer who is a current Statesville City customer with good credit with the City
  3. Positive rating from a credit check completed by the City of Statesville

Commercial customers may have this deposit waived with one of the following:

  1. Surety bond
  2. Positive rating from a credit check completed by the City of Statesville

How to Terminate an Existing Utility Account

Moving out and need to end the utility services at an address?

For your security, NO requests to end services are taken over the phone. All changes must be made in person or in writing through email.

All termination notices must be made in person M-F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 301 S. Center St. or in writing and must include:

  • An ID to confirm that the account holder is requesting the termination.
  • A forwarding address where the final bill can be mailed.
  • If you are selling the property, services can be transferred to the new owner if a copy of the settlement statement is provided. (They can terminate but only new owner can start services in their name)

PLEASE NOTE:

  • It is the responsibility of the Account Holder to notify the City when they vacate a property and need services to be terminated.
  • Requests for termination can only be processed up to 10 days in advance.
How to Have Your Services Re-Connected

When it becomes necessary for the City to discontinue services for any reason, service will be restored after payment of:

  1. All past due bills
  2. Any required deposit
  3. Any material and labor cost incurred by the City of Statesville
  4. Applicable reconnection fees
Transfer of Service

Customers may transfer service from one location to another as long as there are no past due bills. The account balance will be transferred to the new account. A new deposit may be required to establish the new account and a connection fee will be charged.
