Project Update: July 2, 2025

Traffic Pattern Change Coming Soon to Meeting & Water Streets

The Water and Meeting Street Improvements Project is nearing completion. Final striping of the roadway is scheduled for late next week (July 10 or 11), and with it comes an important change for drivers: the intersection of Meeting Street and Water Street will become a 3-way stop.

Signage will be installed ahead of time to alert drivers to the new traffic pattern. Please use caution as everyone adjusts to this change. This update is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve safety and traffic flow in the downtown area.

Thank you for your patience throughout this project!

Update: June 2025

The Water and Meeting Street Improvements Project is nearing completion. All construction work is finished, with the exception of pavement restriping. Once striping is complete, three stop signs will be installed to support the new traffic pattern at the intersection.

Advance notice will be provided before the stop signs are placed to help drivers prepare for the change. Additional signage will also be installed to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern.

We appreciate your patience throughout this project and encourage all drivers to use caution in the area as these final improvements are implemented.

Road Work in Progress at Water and Meeting Streets – Please Use Caution

Construction activity is now underway at the Water and Meeting Street intersection as part of a project to improve traffic flow, visibility, and overall safety in the area.

Drivers will notice cones, signage, and crews working along the intersection. While the intersection remains open, there will be intermittent lane closures throughout the two to three month project timeline.

Led by a contractor for the City of Statesville, the project includes converting the intersection into a three-way stop, adding curb and gutter to support stormwater drainage, installing new street markings, and incorporating green space to make the area more pedestrian-friendly.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down, stay alert, and drive with care through the work zone. Your attention and patience help ensure a safe environment for both workers and drivers.
