This annual observance, instituted by the American Public Works Association (APWA) in 1960, serves as a public education campaign to highlight the vital role of public works in our communities. Public Works professionals contribute to enhancing the well-being and quality of life in their communities through their dedication to maintaining and improving infrastructure, public spaces, and essential services.

People, Purpose, Presence

Together, eight divisions form the foundation of the City’s infrastructure and public services, working around the clock to keep Statesville safe, functional, and thriving.

The City of Statesville will declare May 18- 24, 2025 as National Public Works Week here in Statesville at the City Council Meeting on May 18, 2025, further recognizing the impact of this group on our City. Statesville Mayor, Costi Kutteh, urges all citizens to join with representatives of the American Public Works Association and government agencies to pay tribute to our public works professionals, engineers, managers, and employees and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national health, safety, and advancing quality of life for all. View the full proclamation here.
