National Public Works Week (May 18-24, 2025)
This annual observance, instituted by the American Public Works Association (APWA) in 1960, serves as a public education campaign to highlight the vital role of public works in our communities. Public Works professionals contribute to enhancing the well-being and quality of life in their communities through their dedication to maintaining and improving infrastructure, public spaces, and essential services.

Together, eight divisions form the foundation of the City’s infrastructure and public services, working around the clock to keep Statesville safe, functional, and thriving.
The City of Statesville will declare May 18- 24, 2025 as National Public Works Week here in Statesville at the City Council Meeting on May 18, 2025, further recognizing the impact of this group on our City. Statesville Mayor, Costi Kutteh, urges all citizens to join with representatives of the American Public Works Association and government agencies to pay tribute to our public works professionals, engineers, managers, and employees and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national health, safety, and advancing quality of life for all. Electric Utilities
The Electric Utilities Division is responsible for delivering safe, reliable electric service to Statesville customers. This includes maintaining miles of overhead and underground electric lines, responding to outages, performing routine inspections, and planning upgrades to support future growth. The team also focuses on energy efficiency and ensuring minimal service interruptions through proactive system improvements.
Engineering
The Engineering Division provides critical planning, design, and oversight for the City’s infrastructure projects.
This includes managing public construction projects, reviewing private development plans, coordinating stormwater and utility improvements, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The division plays a key role in supporting sustainable growth and long-term city planning.
Fleet Maintenance
The Fleet Maintenance team services and repairs the City’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, ensuring that essential service vehicles remain in optimal working condition.
Public Grounds
The Public Grounds Division maintains public outdoor spaces throughout Statesville.
This includes landscaping and upkeep of parks, athletic fields, cemeteries, medians, greenways, and the grounds surrounding city buildings.
The team handles mowing, tree trimming, irrigation, litter removal, and seasonal planting to keep public spaces attractive, safe, and welcoming for all.
Sanitation
The Sanitation Division provides weekly curbside collection of residential solid waste and recycling, helping to keep neighborhoods clean and supporting responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship.
Stormwater
Our Stormwater Division works to prevent flooding and improve water quality by managing runoff and maintaining the city’s stormwater infrastructure. This includes maintaining storm drains, pipes, culverts, and implementing best practices for environmental protection.
Streets
Our Streets Division is responsible for maintaining 142 miles of city streets. This includes repairing sidewalks, curbs, gutters, shoulders, and pavement, as well as filling potholes and conducting routine street sweeping to ensure safe and clean roadways.
Water and Sewer Maintenance
This division is tasked with maintaining approximately 274 miles of water lines and 278 miles of sanitary sewer lines.
Crews respond to water line breaks, sewer backups, and perform routine inspections and maintenance to ensure uninterrupted service.
Water Resources
The Water Resources Division oversees the operation of the City’s Water Treatment Plant, which is permitted to treat up to 15 million gallons of water per day. In addition, the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plants treat an average of 3.9 million gallons of wastewater each day, ensuring a reliable and clean water system for the community.
