City Manager August 2025 Update to City Council
At the August 4 City Council meeting, City Manager Ron Smith highlighted recent community events, construction progress, and key city updates.
Community Engagement
- The Statesville Police Department hosted a Community Fun Day at the Boys & Girls Club, serving more than 150 kids.
- Staff were thanked for their work at the End of Summer Bash.
Major Projects & Construction Updates
- Police Department Expansion & Parking Deck – West footing for the parking deck is poured; demo work for the expansion begins August 11, with storm drain installation planned for August 25 (pending sinkhole work).
- Statesville Regional Airport Terminal Buidling– Interior wall and drywall work starting soon; sidewalks, curbs, and gutters to follow. Project completion is expected in December 2025.
- Sinkhole Repair Tradd and E Front St – Work should wrap up by late August or early September after replacing an old water line.
- Pinehurst Road Stormwater Repair – Culvert repair is complete; paving options are under review.
- Kimbrough Park Renovation– Playground installation finishing this week; pond maintenance agreement in place; picnic shelter kit arrival awaited before sidewalk repairs and extensions.
- 2025 Street Resurfacing Project – Street resurfacing nearly complete; greenway resurfacing next; Water & Meeting Street project done; new sidewalks for Alexander and Stockton Streets starting in two weeks.
- Multiple road closures over the next three weeks for the Waterline Replacement Project, including W. Water Street, Brookdale, and N. Carolina Avenue.
Community Support
- The Brookwood Inn will close at the end of August. The City is working with multiple agencies to help relocate affected families.

- Promotions included Jessie Beam and Beau Estaya (Police Officers) and several internal transfers across departments.
- New hires welcomed in the Fire Department, DSDC, and Public Utilities.
